Modulate Last Shout Commissions

Last Shout for six of the Best

We are really pleased to announce that six new commissions have been allocated to six young disabled musicians from Disability Arts Cymru’s Modulate panel. The six chosen represent four songwriting/ recording projects, one video project and one podcasting project. Each of them will be addressing their experience of being a disabled creative in today’s society and their personal, sometimes painful, sometimes funny,  experiences. They are all impressively accomplished young musicians and we can’t wait to see what they come up with.

Four of the projects will be showcased in a sharing event on 06/06/24 at 18:00 with BSL interpretation by Claire Anderson.

Laura Moulding: The Inclusive Music Project

Laura will develop a small number of episodes for a podcast series on her experience as a Disabled musician in Wales, showcasing her music, her journey, and how the music industry can do better for Disabled people.

Blank Face: Modulate Song

Blank Face will be using his experience of facing ableism in education and his prodigious talents in music creation and mastering to write a track combining samples of ableist comments with a sensory soundscape to communicate his perspective of being a Neurodivergent person

Ruth Potts: Song-writing Project

Ruth will be using her consummate musical talents to record new material that uses her own song-writing and vocal skills to move into a different musical direction from her classical and orchestral roots.

Rebecca Jollife: TBA (Video Project)

Rebecca will create a short film with a strong soundscape element, portraying her experiences of micro-aggressions and judgements in able-bodied spaces.

Elin Angharad: Ow Ow Ow

Using Garageband, Elin will explore themes of fatigue and dreams, time distortions, and the search for Disabled joy.

Right Keys Only: TBA (song-writing/ recording)

Right Keys Only is going to combine her skills in song-writing and music making with her experience of being objectified as a token disabled person in a workplace scenario and create some edgy tracks
