Disability Arts Cymru is seeking new Trustees

Disability Arts Cymru (DAC) is the national lead organisation championing Deaf and disabled artists, performers, and creatives across Wales. We're on a mission to dismantle societal barriers, promote equality, and ensure disabled people are leading the way in the arts and cultural sector. We work to guarantee that the people creating, leading, and enjoying art in Wales reflect the true diversity of our nation.

To ensure DAC remains dynamic, relevant and radically inclusive, we are constantly pioneering new ways of working. Rooted firmly in the Social Model of Disability, we support creatives across every art form, visual arts, music, theatre, literature, and digital media. By driving systemic change through creating art from the lived experience of disability, we obliterate barriers that keep people excluded from the arts. Alongside this we provide advocacy, advice and training to promote equality across the sector. All of this work is done through the lens of the social model of disability, which asserts that societal barriers and negative attitudes disable people, not impairments!

Trustees

We are looking for passionate people to join our Board of Trustees to help guide DAC as we move into one of the most exciting times in the organisation's history. We are always seeking to widen the range of lived experiences (personal and professional), cultural perspectives, and artistic backgrounds on our Board.

We welcome applications from Deaf, disabled, neurodivergent individuals, as well as allies. We are particularly interested in hearing from young disabled people and early career artists.

Our Board of Trustees has overall responsibility for ensuring our charity is managed effectively, ethically and sustainably. Becoming a Trustee gives you the chance to:

• Drive Systemic Equity: Use your insight and skills to shape a more accessible cultural landscape across Wales.

• Grow Your Leadership: Gain governance experience and strategic skills for your own personal and professional journey.

• Champion Creative Rights: Act as a passionate advocate for disability culture and equal representation.

  
  

Board Commitments & Access Support

• Meeting Schedule: The Board meets four times a year (including the Annual General Meeting), plus an in person strategy day roughly once every two years.

• Online Format: Meetings are conducted with accessibility in mind, over Zoom with captioning and the option of any additional access or adjustments necessary.

• Expenses Covered: All Trustee positions are voluntary, but reasonable expenses including travel, access support, personal assistance, and childcare costs are reimbursed when necessary.

  
  

Disability Arts Cymru is a registered charity funded by the Arts Council of Wales.
