2025 Our Voice Bursary In Partnership with Ballet Cymru

For artists of the Global Majority who are seeking to develop as choreographers.


The 2025 Our Voice Bursary aims to support two artists of the Global Majority, for one year, to develop as choreographers and to build connections in the arts sector in Wales to lead to touring and presenting opportunities for their work.


Two recipients will be chosen through an open selection process searching for those with a rigorous, equitable choreographic practice for public benefit, with less than two years’ experience in touring their work.

Successful recipients will be supported for one year (September 2025 – August 2026) in the following ways:

  • Monthly mentoring sessions with Ballet Cymru staff to support their development as choreographers;

  • Support from artist and Our Voice Network founder Krystal S. Lowe, including application and CV writing, feedback on ideas, finding jobs and opportunities, and building connections with people in the arts sector to support ongoing career development;

  • A public showcase of their work in the 2026 Our Voice Sharing held at Ballet Cymru, produced by Krystal S. Lowe; and

  • A £600 bursary to support expenses and time to develop their art-form.

Ballet Cymru will also endeavour to support the 2025 Our Voice Bursary recipients to take part in paid work placements and choreographic opportunities throughout the year, at Ballet Cymru or elsewhere.

Who Can Apply?

  • Applicants must be of the Global Majority*, passionate about creating dance works for public benefit, and have the desire to focus on developing as choreographers.

  • Applicants must have less than 2 years’ experience in presenting and touring their own work.

  • Applicants must be based in Wales.

  • Applicants can be working in any dance form but must have a movement-based practice.


*Our Voice Network uses the term Global Majority for those who are either from, or descendant from, the continents of Africa and Asia.

  • Describe who you are, what is important to you in the world, and what you enjoy doing with your time.

  • Tell us the purpose of sharing your choreographic practice publicly.

  • Share what support you would like in order to develop your career as a choreographer.

  • Add up to 3 video links of your work.

Timeline:

  • March 31st – Applications Open

  • June 30 – Application Deadline

  • July – Interviews

  • August 4th – Selection Decision

  • August 30th – Welcome Event to commence bursary year

The 2025 Our Voice Bursaries have been funded by Ballet Cymru.
