Double Bill - Preview of Storytelling Shows going to the Edinburgh Fringe

With Ffion Philips, Ailsa Dixon, Claire Mace

Friday 25th July 7pm-9.30pm

At St David’s Church Hall, 1 Penrhyn Beach E, Penrhyn Bay, near Llandudno LL30 3NT (entrance is on Glan Y Mor Road)

Two new storytelling shows with storytellers from Wales and Scotland.

ADERYN/BIRD - Atop a far-off mountain, birds gather to perch on the fate-shaping hands of an old mountain man – stories stirring in the murmuration, waiting to glide into the human world.

In this new Harebell Tellers production, traditional storytellers Ailsa Dixon and Ffion Phillips follow the flight paths of bird mythology across ancient Britain; oceans, forests, in and out of this world and that.

Weaving together Welsh and Scots language, music and story into a meditative hour of storytelling magic, Ffion and Ailsa breathe new life into ancient myths and re-enchant old folktales.

SACRED HERBS OF BRITAIN - Join Claire Mace for a bilingual retelling of the story of Olwen, the giant’s daughter, with hair yellower than the broom and cheeks pinker than the foxglove.

She leaves a trail of white clover wherever she walks, and is the heroine of “Culhwch and Olwen”, a tale from the mediaeval manuscripts of the Mabinogion.

This show blends herb lore, folk tales and stories of the trees and plants to illuminate her landscape. This traditional storytelling performance has been developed thanks to the Gwobr Esyllt Prize from Chwedl, the network of women storytellers in Wales.
