Queer Rural Wales - A Showcase Celebration
Saturday 1st November, 12:00–5:00pm
The Wales Broadcast Archive, The National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth, SY23 3BU
Join us to celebrate the publication of Mair Jones’ creative essay commissioned as part of our ‘Understanding Our Past to Know Our Present’ project, in partnership with the Wales Broadcast Archive. In their piece responding to archive material, ‘Queer Rural Wales’, Mair gives a comprehensive account of this lesser known but important part of our history. The event will be a chance to hear LGBTQIA+ stories from Wales, explore your own writing practice, and connect with others in a welcoming space.
What to expect:
A live reading and Q&A with Mair Jones
A writing workshop with non-fiction author Mike Parker
A collective queer joy poetry session with the Marginalised Writers collective
An introduction to Inclusive Journalism Cymru and the chance to feed into our future plans
Free lunch and refreshments provided
While most sessions will be in English, Welsh contributions are warmly welcomed — we aim to create a naturally bilingual, inclusive atmosphere.
The event is free and open to everyone, but registration is required by 5:00pm, Tuesday 28th October via our short form.
